Madhyamaheshwar Temple
This is one of the oldest places of religious importance present in India and also the 4th temple in the holy circuit of total five temples. The Madhyamaheswar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and it has its association as a place where the body of Lord Shiva fell when he was stopped by Bhima from vanishing. A trip to this temple is never easy to reach, as it is located at a height of 3490 m. Yet devotees visit in large flocks throughout the year.Story has it that lord Shiva transformed himself into a bull in order to escape or avoid the Pandavas who wished to seek his blessing, after the epic battle of Mahabharatha.To reach the Madhyamaheswar temple it takes trek of 24 km and the route passes through lush and woody forests of Guptkashi. As the temple is mainly dedicated to the belly of lord Shiva, a Shivalinga in shape of navel is worshipped inside the temple. There are several small ponds located in the nearby region of the temple.
