Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple
Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, in the outskirts of the city, is located at a distance of approximately 5.5 km from the city centre. Sprawling on the banks of seasonal river, this cave temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.The name of the temple has been derived from the Hindi word Tapak, which means to drop. Water drops naturally on the Shivaling established in the cave from the ceiling and hence, it was named as Tapkeshwar Temple.According to legend, Lord Shiva made milk flow for son of Rishi Dronacharya, Ashwathama.In addition, there are cool sulphur springs located around the temple, which are believed to have therapeutic value. Hence, these springs are ideal points for tourists to take a dip while visiting the temple. Tourists, especially devotees, visit this temple during the festival of Shivaratri and pay homage to Lord Shiva and His wife, Goddess Parvati.
