Nanda Devi Temple
Nanda Devi Temple, situated in the town of Almora above the Mall Road, is one of the sacred temples in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Dating back to 1000 years, this Kumaoni-style temple is dedicated to the patron goddess of the Chand Dynasty.It is built within the antechamber of a Shiva Temple, and features a magnificent monument adorned with a stone amalaka or crown, encircled by a wooden roof. The surrounding walls are graced by intricate stone carvings that imitate life-like statues and images.The temple is most famous for the Nanda Devi Fair that is hosted every year in the month of September. Tourists from across the world travel to Almora just to participate in this festival, which is accompanied with drum beats and energetic dance steps.
