Govindghat is situated at a distance of 18.7 km from Joshimath and lies on the banks of the Alaknanda River. The place is famous for its religious site, the Hemkund Sahib. Hemkund means the 'lake of snow' and the water of the lake is very cold.It is believed that Guru Gobind Singh used to meditate at this place. A gurudwara and a temple are situated here. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama's younger brother, Lakshman. Govindghat is also an ideal spot for trekking.
