Baijnath is located about 26 km from Bageshwar and is an important place both in terms of religion and history. It is situated on Gwaldam motor road, on the banks of river Gomti in Katyuri Valley. This place was once the capital of Katyuri dynasty and the ancient temples of the place are witness to that era.The old temple of Shiva is famous for the idol of Goddess Parvati. Another very important temple is the Kotkimai temple, located around 8 km from Baijnath. On the way to the main temple, there is another temple of Bamani with an idol of Shiva. The main temple is devoted to Baijnath or Vaidhyanatha (another name of Shiva). The temple can be accessed by the stairs made of stones which were constructed by Katyuri Queen.
