Jetavana Monastery, dedicated to Lord Gautam Buddha, is the 2nd Buddhist monastery in India, the 1st one being the Veluvana in Rajagaha. Lord Gautam Buddha is assumed to have delivered majority of discourses and teachings at this monastery. This ancient structure has various buildings, namely the Candanamala, Kaveri Mandalamala, Mulagandhakuti and Kosambakuti. Right outside this monastery stood a residential building that belonged to Lord Samiddhisumana and an old Rajayatana tree. Another attraction of this religious site is a large pond named Jetavanapokkharan. It was the bathing area of Lord Gautam Buddha. This monastery has been converted into a historical park and is famous for an ancient cave, known as Kapallapuvapabbhara.
