Chunar is a popular tourist destination located in Mirzapur of Uttar Pradesh, 43 km away from Sarnath. Chunar is famous for the Chunar Fort, which was established by Maharaja Vikramaditya.Deeply rooted in the history of Uttar Pradesh, Chunar Fort had always been a target of Mughal and Afghan rulers. It came under the rule of British East India Company in the year 1772.Situated on the hill extensions of the Vindhya Range, along the banks of River Ganges, Chunar Fort offers a clear view of the Ganges and its surroundings.
