Gorakhnath Temple
The Gorakhnath Temple is the most popular sightseeing destination of Gorakhpur. This temple was named after the name of Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath who is said to have meditated in the location of this temple in the Treta Yug.The shape and structure of this temple was changed and reformed since it was built. Attempts have been made to destroy the temple many times during the rule of Mughal Emperors. The present shape and form of this temple had been conceptualised by Mahant Digvijayanath and temple head priest, Mahant Ayeiydyanath.The most popular feature of this temple includes the Garbh Griha, where a portrait of Saint Gorakhnath has been displayed in the form of meditating Lord Shiva. Other attractions include the Charan Paduka, Mansarovar Pond, and the Khichari Mela, which is celebrated here during the month of January.
