The town of Chirgaon is located some 30 km from Jhansi, on the banks of Betwa River. The town is very popular for Maithili Sharan Gupt, the National Poet who hailed from Chirgaon.This municipal board and city of Jhansi district has a Krishi Utpadan Mandi and the city is a good example of the earlier structure of Indian cities. There are three 'darwajas' or gates and a 'quila' or fort, located in the centre of the town.The town also has community grounds and ponds and is an example of communal harmony with people of different religions living together. There is a Shiva-Sai Temple here and is a popular attraction.Chirgaon was also active during the freedom struggle of India as hundreds of young men of the region joined the movement. Many of the young generation still pursue the art of poetry here.
