Mount Abu
Mount Abu, considered as the only hill station of Rajasthan, is located in the Sirohi District. It is at a height of around 1,220 m above sea level and lies south-west of the Aravalli Hills. The hill station is famous for the St. Lawrence Church that was built in 1846. It is regarded as the first church in the entire Mount Abu region.Another attraction of this hill station is the Government Museum, constructed in 1962. This museum was built to preserve the archaeological wealth of the Sirohi District. There are different sections in the museum that exhibit varied artefacts, such as miniature paintings, ornaments, weapons and musical instruments. Statues of Devdasis and Nartakis, built between 6th and 12th centuries, are also on display in this museum.The Om Shanti Bhavan, Abu Delwada Teerth, Mahavir Swami Temple and Tejpal Temple are a few other places of interest here. The Achalgarh Fort present here, was built by Rana Kumbha in the 14th century. The Khartar Vashi Temple, also known as the Parshvanath Temple, is also an often visited site. This temple is believed to have been built in 1459 by Mandlik and his family. The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, covering an area of about 290 sq km, is one of the most important tourist attractions in Mount Abu. The sanctuary is a natural habitat for animals like wild boars, panthers, sambar, foxes and bears. Mount Abu is also famous for the Nakki Lake, located at around 1,200 m above sea level.
