Bhangarh Fort
Bhangarh Fort is one of the medieval forts of Rajasthan, located in Bhangarh Town of Rajasthans Alwar District. This fort was built in 1613 by Madho Singh, who was the son of Man Singh of Amber, a great Mughal General.Bhangarh Fort, now in ruins, is surrounded by a partially ruined wall. It was earlier surrounded by elevated hill extensions of the Aravalli Range on three sides. Natural springs, waterfalls, gardens, havelis, banyan trees and temples of Lord Someshwar, Gopinath, Mangala Devi and Keshava Rai can also be found in the fort premises. There is also a secluded chhatri, atop an elevated hill that overlooks the town and fort of Bhangarh. The fort and the town of Bhangarh, located near Sariska, are believed to be haunted since many centuries. Legends have it that Bhangarh Fort was abandoned soon after its construction and the town was also eventually deserted, as the fort of Bhangarh was cursed by an ascetic, Baba Balanath, for violating a prior agreement. As per another folklore, it was a wicked tantric, Singhia Sevra, who gave a death curse to Bhangarh.According to the recent excavations conducted by the Archeological Survey of India, it is evident that the town of Bhangarh is a pre-historic site. The Archeological Survey has strictly prohibited entering the borderline of Bhangarh before sunrise and after sunset, since the peculiar atmosphere at Bhangarh could cause anxiety and restlessness to its visitors, even during the day.
