Formerly the capital of the princely state of Bikaner, the city was founded by Maharaja Rao Bika of the Rathore clan in 1486 and from its small origins it has developed into the fourth largest city in Rajasthan. Bika also built a fort in this region in 1478 AD. The fort is famous by the name of Junagarh Fort also known as Chintamani Durg.
After Row Bika, Bikaner came under the rule of Raja Rai Singh the sixth ruler of Bikaner who ruled from 1571 AD to 1611 AD. The major development that happened in Bikaner was under the rule of Raja Rai Singh who ruled from 1571 AD to 1611 AD. The construction of the fort was started in 1589 and completed in 1594.
