Karad is one of the historic cities of Maharashtra, located at a distance of about 50 km from Satara City. Karad was a prominent territory under the empires of Mauryas, Chalukyas, Bahmanis, Rashtrakutas, Marathas, Peshwas, Satavahanas, Mughals and the British. Karad offers a plethora of attractions like temples, forts, hills, masjids and minars; of which, some of the most famous are the Buddhist Rock Cut Caves, Devi Krishnamai Temple, Sadashivgad Fort, Karad Masjid, Priti Sangam, etc.
