Mahad is a small town as well as a popular sightseeing attraction situated near the city of Raigad. The town lies on the banks of river Savitri and is known for its water agitation facilities. A Kranti Stambh is also present in the place in the memory of this agitation, which was headed by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. A memorial in his honour has also been built in Mahad, which comprises of ancient monuments and caves.The most popular tourist attraction in the place includes the holy shrine of Shri Varad Vinayak Temple. This shrine is one of the 'Ashta Vinayak' shrines in the state. This temple has a nearby holy pond and Gomukh, along with an eternal lamp, which is said to be burning continuously since 1892 AD. An MIDC is also located near Mahad and it is also the gateway to other tourist attractions in the region. It is also a stop-over for tourists travelling to Konkan and Mahabaleshwar.
