The open jail of Swatantrapur is one of the prominent attractions of Sangli. In ancient times, the people who behaved well during their punishment in other jails, were sent to this jail as a reward. In this jail, such people were allowed to meet their families and were also given a personal land for farming. These people grew crops on this land and sold them in the market of Taluka Town, to earn a living.
