Thalner

Thalner, located on the River Tapi, is considered as the first capital of the Faruqi Kings. Situated in the tehsil of Shirpur, this place is around 46.67 km to the north-east of Dhule town. Thalner is believed to be named after the ancient temple of Thaleshwar, which is situated on the shores of the Tapi River. Thalner Fort is surrounded by a hollow way from the three sides and the fourth side rising out of the Tapi River. This hollow way has a width ranging from 91.44 to 137.16 metres. The walls lying above this hollow way have a height of around 18.28 metres. Tourists can enter this fort from the eastern side, which is believed to be covered by five successive gates. Only a negligible portion of the fortifications of the fort are located on the river side. It is believed that one of the bastions was destroyed by a flood brought on by the Tapi River.
