Kovalam Beach
Located at a distance of 18 km from Poovar, Kovalam Beach is the main attraction nearby. There are three major beaches in this 17 km coastline. The most popular beach in Kovalam is Light House Beach, which is famous for its 35 m high light house located at Kurumkal hillock. Other beaches of this place are Hawah Beach and Samudra Beach, which is at the northern part of former beach. The Samudra Beach is separated from the southern side by a promontory. Tourists do not come to this part often and the place is used by local fishermen for trading. The sands of these beaches are black in colour because of Ilmenite and Monazite. Another beach of this place is Ashoka Beach, which also make part of Kovalam beach.
