Mattupetty
Mattupetty (the Cattle Village) is a small town which has become a popular picnic spot among tourists visiting Munnar. Mattupetty is located at an altitude of about 1700 m above sea level, at a distance of 13 km from Munnar. Mattupetty is famous for its Indo - Swiss Farm. The Indo - Swiss Livestock Project, which was formulated around 1963, was set in Munnar in collaboration with Swiss Government. Indo - Swiss Farm consists of a project site, a cattle centre and a research centre. The project site is located amidst sprawling grasslands for cattle to freely graze around. The project site also includes landscaped gardens which has many varieties of flowering plants. At Indo - Swiss Farm, more than 100 varieties of high yielding breeds of cattle are reared. Visitors are allowed only in three cattle sheds among the 12 cattle sheds at Mattupetty. Mattupetty Dam and Lake is situated about 3 km away from Indo - Swiss Farm. Tourists visiting Mattupetty Dam and Lake often go for boating at the lake to enjoy the scenic beauty of the place. Kundala Lake and Tea Plantations lie in close vicinity to Mattupetty Dam and Lake.
