Kuruva Islands
The Kuruva Islands, also known as the Kuruvadweep, comprise three islands along with few submersible satellite islands. The major island of Kuruvadweep has two fresh water lakes that are visited by various migratory birds and have rare species of herbs and orchids. Kuruvadweep covers an area of approximately 950 acres, including the protected river delta system of River Kabini. This island can only be accessed with the help of fibre and raft boats that are operated by the Kerala Tourism Department. In order to protect the flora and fauna of Kuruvadweep, entry to the island is restricted and monitored by the Vana Samrakshana Samithi.
