Museum Of Kerala History
Museum of Kerala History is located 10 km north of Ernakulam city on NH 47. This live museum recites the history of the state through informative light and sound shows. The museum depicts the stories on the lives of 87 personalities, who played a significant role in shaping Kerala's future. During the light and sound show, the social, cultural and literary aspects of Kerala are given considerable significance. Over 36 visuals depict the 2000 year old history of Kerala and covers aspects like Early People, Nannan of Ezhimala, Senguttavan and Ilango Venmani. Other sections of Kerala history that are represented in light and sound show are Ay Andiran of Pothiyilmala, The Aryan Immigration, St. Thomas, Shankaracharya, Kulasekhara Alwar and Cheraman Perumal Nayanar. This museum was built by R Madhavan Nayar, who was a prominent industrialist and a pioneer in Sea Food Export Industry in India. He was also the late managing trustee of the Madhavan Nayar Foundation. The museum houses a special gallery for paintings and sculptures that holds exhibition of the specimens of Indian contemporary art. Artwork of the Company School of Paintings, Narrative painters and the Symbolic-Mystical Style are displayed in the gallery of the museum. Collection of the gallery also holds works of 'Matured' Bengal School, the Progressive Artists Group and Indian Abstract Act. Major highlight of the museum is a Dolls Museum, which comprises a collection of 150 dolls. These handcrafted dolls hail from different Indian states and can be identified by their attires, hairdos and jewellery.
