St Mary's Church in Athirampuzha, dedicated to Saint Mary, was constructed in 1080. This church is about 10 km north of the main city of Kottayam. It is famous for a statue of St Sebastian which was brought by Portuguese colonial rulers and installed here. This statue is called as 'Adiyelpicha Roopam, which means tortured figure. It portrays St Sebastian being thrashed by his oppressors. An annual feast, lasting over five days, is organised at this church for honouring St Sebastian.
