Willingdon Island is an artificial man-made island, which comprises the modern port serving Kochi. The island has been named after Lord Willingdon, who was the former Madras governor. The Willingdon Island is home for the Port of Kochi, as well as the Kochi Naval Base of the Indian Navy and Central Institute of Fisheries. This island is also home to Office of the Cochin Port Trust, the Customs Office and various export-import offices. Hotels and business centres are also dotted across the island. This island is connected to Kochi's mainland by road and the railway Venduruthy Bridge.
