Bekal Fort was built 300 years ago and is counted among the most popular forts of Kerala. The fort covers an area of 40 acres and is situated 130 ft above the sea level. The keyhole shape of the fort reveals that it was built for defensive requirement of the region. There are several holes on the top, below and underneath the fort, which were made to safeguard the kingdom from the attacks of the enemies. The view of nearby areas such as Kanhangad and Pallikere can be enjoyed from the observation tower of the fort. Tunnel which opens towards the south, magazine for ammunition and water tank with the flight of steps can also be seen by the tourists in this fort. Near the fort are also located a Hanuman Temple and a mosque built by Tipu Sultan.
