Mullakkal Rajeshwari Temple, one of the most famous temples of the region is located in the heart of Alappuzha city. Dedicated to the goddess Rajeshwari, this temple is visited by a large number of devotees. One of the main festival times that is celebrated in this temple by Alappuzha people is Mullakkal Chirappu. During this period, devotees in large number throng the temple so as to receive the blessings of the deity. Top opened Sreekovil, especially made for Vana Durga is the major attraction of this temple. Another important festival celebrated in this temple is the nine day Navratri and particularly the last two days of this festival Mahanavami and Vijayadasami. In addition, one of the most important festivals celebrated in this temple is 'Thaipooyakavadi. For the procession of this festival, around fifteen 'Kavadis' take part. According to history, there are several stories behind this temple. It is said that the idols in this temple were brought by the soldiers of Thekkumkur king. These idols were supposed to have been placed at a Jasmine Garden and were permanently fixed there. As the time passed, a temple was constructed at this place by the king Devanarayana of Chembagasery.
