Lamayuru
On a particularly beautiful stretch of the Srinagar-Leh Highway, lies this earliest surviving monastery of Ladakh, known as Yung-drung, or the Swastika, Lamayuru is perched high above the village of the same name. The site is said to have been chosen by the Kashmiri yogi, Naropa, in the early 11th century. Lamayuru can be combined with a trip to Alchi.
