Kalka is a town situated on the foothills of the Himalayas in Panchkula District. This town was named after Goddess Kali and is also the terminus of the Kalka - Shimla Railway. It is believed that this town was acquired from the state of Patiala by the British in 1843. After its acquisition, Kalka also served as a depot for Shimla, which was the summer capital of the Raj.One of the major attractions of this town is the Kali Mata Temple, dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Kali.
