Brajeshwari Devi Temple
Brajeshwari Devi Temple, located in proximity to Palampur is an important religious centre in the region. The shrine is renowned for it’s wealthy status. This temple was looted by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1009, and the invader built a mosque on the ruins and a garrison was left behind. The regional king repaired the shrine and a replica of the idol was enshrined. The temple having a large repository of gold, silver and diamonds was ransacked again in 1360 by Firoz Tughlaq, which was later restored by Emperor Akbar.During the earthquake in 1905, the temple was badly damaged. Presently, Brajeshwari Devi Temple is one of the major worship centres in the region.As per traditions, Pindi of the Goddess is decorated with a layer of butter during the auspicious occasion of Lohri.
