The Great Himalayan National Park is also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Great Himalayan National Park. Spread over an area of 765 sq km, it is home to over 31 species of mammals and 181 species of birds. National park also serves as home to 3 species of reptiles, 9 species of amphibians, 11 species of annelids, 68 resident bird species and 50 migrant bird species.In the national park, 17 species of molluscs and 127 species of insects belonging to six orders, also reside. Popular animals that find abode in the national park are brown bears, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, black bears, ibex and various species of snow leopards. Bharal, ibex, langurs and rhesus macaques are also found in the national park that is perched at an altitude ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 m above sea level.
