Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary

Located in the district of Banaskantha is the Jessore Sloth Bear sanctuary, which is about 45 km from the region of Palanpur. This region was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1978 in the month of May. The bear sanctuary covers a total land area of 180.66 sq km in the adjoining space of the Jessore Hills and the surrounding areas that houses rare species of animals and birds. Part of the Aravalli hills, the Jessore hill is said to be the 2nd highest peak in the region of Gujarat. The main reason behind the popularity of the sanctuary is the endangered Sloth Bear and other species housed here include animals like leopards, rhesus macaque, Indian civet cat, porcupine, fox, striped, hyena, wild boar etc. The forest area also houses a few rare varieties of birds, both land and water birds. Beyond the area of Muni ji ki kutia, the rare Indian Python is also can be spotted. The best time to visit the sanctuary is during the winter season.
