Ancestral Goa
Ancestral Goa, also known as Ancestral Goa Museum, is located at a distance of around 10 km from Majorda-Beach in Loutolim village. Renowned as a big foot among natives, the museum is presently operated by Mahendra Jocelino Araujo Alvares, an artist. This open-air museum is a privately run organisation and features Goan rural life as it was a hundred years ago. Housing a handicraft centre and a restaurant, the museum displays the work done by local children and artists of state and national fame. A dance floor, a cross, a spring known as Boca de Vaca, a bird habitat, a spice yard and rubber plantations are the other attractions of this site. Besides, tourists can also explore the Goan Artist Gallery, the music school known as Escola da Musica, the village market and a feni distillery in the premises of the museum. The main highlight of this site is a 14 metres sculpture of Sant Mirabai, a disciple of Lord Krishna, which was carved by the owner in 30 days. The statute made by MJ Alvarez got registered in the Limca Book of Records for being the longest laterite sculpture in India.
